The “Certosa di Pavia” (The Pavia Chartreuse)

Our town has the honour of presenting a wonderful national monument, among the most important in the world. The Chartreuse is in fact considered part of the Unesco Heritage. The monastery has 615 years of history and on average it is visited by not less than 300.000 people a year: a real masterpiece of the Lombard Renaissance.

The best architects, sculptors and painters have alternated during the almost two centuries used for its construction, such as Bernardo da Venezia, who has already designed the Cathedral of Milan, Mantegazza and Bergognone. You can appreciate these and many other artists by visiting the monument thanks to Cistercian monks, but also by discovering the beautiful museum and its plaster collection. It is one of the most prestigious in the world, organized by the Brera superintendent.

Certosa offers an interesting area to be discovered, a well-preserved agricultural place to admire by bike through the countryside.

There is an excellent and different local food and wine range with really friendly accomodation from hotels to bed&breakfasts.

You can even discover hobby and food markets in the street or live events for a totally relaxing stay, far from the city chaos, but also geographically well-located for everyone who wants to visit Milan, Pavia, the Lomellina, the Oltrepò and the other tourist attractions which are easily accessible from Certosa.
